Zhou Kaylee
Since I took H2 Computing, I was exempted from Course 1 so am unable to provide feedback for it. For Course 2, I found that the video lectures were extremely concise and clear in explanations. Hence, I was able to pick up the theory quickly. I believe from here on I will have a better foundational understanding of how machine learning works, which I hope to apply when university starts. I would advise future GCOMP students to spend time evaluating their interests, and choose only what they are interested in for further studies, while ignoring the fact that computing is a male dominated field. I would advise them to pick up a project as well, as working on personal projects tend to keep up the interest.

Course 1 gave me hands-on experience with Python basics and introduced computational thinking concepts. The tutorial questions were especially useful as writing code to solve numerous problems was very useful in helping me remember the syntax as opposed to memorising it. Course 2 taught concepts foundational to machine learning. I felt that the course had enough theoretical depth and breadth for me to understand what machine learning is about, without being too overwhelming for a complete beginner like myself. For future GCOMP students, Have fun! And do the practice questions yourself instead of copy pasting the solutions.

Participating in GCOMP has been a valuable and rewarding experience. Before joining the programme, I had almost no programming experience and was initially worried that I might struggle to keep up. However, the courses were structured in a clear and accessible way. Course 1 introduced Python from the basics, allowing me to build confidence gradually and develop a solid foundation in programming. Course 2 helped me understand the fundamental concepts of machine learning. I learned not only how different algorithms work, but also how to select appropriate models for different problems. For future GCOMP students, I would encourage them to remain open to trying unfamiliar things and to make the most of every opportunity to discuss ideas and collaborate with their teammates. I hope they will find the programme as rewarding as I did and enjoy the learning process.

I would highly recommend this programme! Companies are sponsoring this programme with the aim of promoting gender diversity so we don't need to pay for this programme at all! I believe that this is a very good way to make use of your time before matriculating into uni as you can learn useful skills as well as bond and make friends with your classmates :) I personally enjoyed the time I spent having meals with my friends as well as exploring the NUS campus before and after classes. As long as you are a graduated A-level student, you are able join this programme so do encourage your friends to sign up together!

As an incoming NUS BAIS (Business AI Systems) student, my journey throughout these 4 months has better equipped me with fundamental programming, ML skills and experiences which are highly relevant to my course of study and my future aspiration as a software developer. I managed to gain a deeper understanding of the challenges involved in deploying technology in real-world scenarios. For incoming students of the course: Go in with an open mind and do not be afraid to try new things. This journey will be your core memory.
